My first experience of diving was in Mexico back in 2006 when I did a try dive and boy was this an experience. Ask me about it and I will tell you about it over a coffee sometime!

I came back from this holiday and booked my PADI Open Water course. Immediately I knew this was for me and continued for my training.

My whole life revolves around scuba diving, be it teaching, pleasure diving or working around the dive site. Scuba diving to me is not just a sport or hobby, it is a passion and I love spreading the word and introducing new divers to the amazing underwater world we have the priviledge of sharing. I am equally as passionate about protecting our oceans and marine life and believe we all have a part to play as responsible divers.

I get enormous satisfaction seeing divers develop over the years I have seen many open water students turn Pro and become great friends.

I have recently achieved a Course Director status and have the pleasure of working with a huge team of like minded professionals, our ultimate objective being to give you the best experience possible whether it be training or professional.

I have always loved the water, but it was not until a trip to Mexico that I was inspired to take my open water course with Scuba Dream. Over the years I have continued to progress my diving and became an instructor in 2018. Diving has become more than a hobby for me and now every chance I get I am in the water or around the lake ready to lend a hand. I love helping people take their first steps into the underwater world or go to that next level. When I get some time to myself you will usually find me in the Red Sea or in Lanzarote with camera and wife in tow!

I look forward to seeing you either start or continue your underwater adventure!

My passion for diving started after overcoming a fear of water in Mexico whilst on my honeymoon. Ever since I have been progressing my diving through Scuba Dream and became an instructor in 2018. I love assisting people in exploring the underwater world and I am passionate about protecting our oceans. I have a special affection for sharks so when I am not at 8 Acre you will often find me with camera in hand trying to get as many pictures of marine life as possible.

I look forward to seeing you either start or continue your underwater adventure!

Since taking a PADI Open Water course in 2010 at a local PADI centre I quickly became involved with their club and soon progressed to Advanced Open Water and then Rescue diver. I then came to Scuba Dream to complete my Divemaster course and when the opportunity arose to become a PADI Instructor I jumped at it!

I like any kind of diving, either in the UK or in more tropical climates but I particularly like deeper dives and wreck dives, although sometimes just the novility of hovering weighless looking down into the blue is enough.

Being part of the Scuba Dream team makes diving even more enjoyable and gives you the opportunity to travel and visit places you wouldn't normally think of going.

A confirmed diveaholic, my passion with the amazing underwater world began in 2016 when Kath and I decided we wanted to do a diving holiday to Malta. So we enrolled at Scuba Dream and achieved our Advanced Open Water in time for the holiday in September.

I was instantly hooked - that first dive in the lovely blue Mediterranean observing all the fantastic fish, corals and wrecks meant I just had to take my PADI diving journey further.

Back home and the career continued, achieving Master Scuba Diver Trainer Instructor in 2021, interspersed with multiple trips to the Red Sea and the North Sea! I quickly developed a passion for recreational sidemount diving and am now a Sidemount Instructor.

I love helping people enjoy and experience what has to be the most rewarding sport in the world!

I started my underwater life in 2004, before a bucket list trip to the Great Barrier Reef that summer, I had some try dives whilst at uni just to make sure I would be ok.

Fast forward 13 years and had found Scuba Dream; after popping over for a coffee and a chat signed up me and Gem to our OpenWater, we progressed through the courses and have enjoyed many trips along the way, in the UK, Red Sea, and Maldives, diving with Seals, Sharks, Mantas & Eels!

The welcoming family at Scuba Dream have been great and always there with support for the many questions I’ve had over the years!

Come over for a chat and coffee, you’ll be surprised where it can take you!

I’ve always been a water baby for as long as I can remember, swimming competitively, dabbling with scuba as a teenager, and I’ve always had a vast interest in the sea, especially sharks. I bought my first book on sharks from the school book club when I was 6 and my favourite dinosaur has always been the Megaladon! My husband bought me my open water course for my birthday in 2017, and we learned and progressed together. Diving, for me, is my happy tranquil place, the place where I can really clear my mind, and escape to one of the most beautiful aspects of our world. I have been really lucky to enjoy some amazing dive sites, from wrecks and reefs in the Red Sea, spectacular reefs and pelagic life in the Maldives, to diving with seals off the coast of Northumberland in the North Sea. My ultimate destinations to dive would have to be French Polynesia, Guadalupe (one of the best Great White sites in the world), and Galapagos. Diving is so much more than a hobby to me, it’s a way of life. It is breathtaking, it is life-changing and to be able to share it with my best friend, and meet some of the best people in the world, are some of the many benefits of diving.

But don’t take my word for it, come and find out for yourself at Scuba Dream.

    Justin Cooke

Open Water Scuba Instructor / EFR Instructor

As a native of “The Land of wood and water” Jamaica, I have always loved and cared for nature and I have been fascinated from an early age especially by the flora and fauna of water, be it sea ,river lake, pond even puddle according to my Mother. At university I initially did zoology hoping to become a marine zoologist. I eventually ended up in another career but still kept my love of water and nature in general. I started scuba diving in 2012 and even though my career “got in the way of diving “ I moved through the ranks and eventually became a Padi instructor in 2018. I enjoy being in the company of the diving community, and I love both the cool waters of the north as well as the warm clear waters of the Caribbean. Summing it all up, ”love and care for nature, love water, love diving, love the dive community, love sharing and passing on the experience of diving”.

Started scuba diving in 2005 and did my open water in Ochos Rios in Jamaica. Over the next 5 years I only did warm water diving (holidays). I discovered Scuba Dream and Eight Acre Lake in 2011 and after working my way through the PADI courses, I started my Divemaster internship and became a member of staff in 2015 and progressing to my current status of Assistant Instructor.

  • Nicky Smedley

    Nicky Smedley

    Assistant Instructor

I’m Nicky or Nemo. I am Assistant Instructor at Scuba Dream. My curiosity for the natural world took me to the ocean, I needed to know more about it.

My passion for the ocean and it’s weirdly wonderful array of animals now drives me to create awareness for the blue world but it’s also a place we’re I’ve found my sweet spot in life, my sanctuary. I feel it’s so important as an Instructor to engage all divers to the many threats the ocean faces. Globally divers unfortunately only represent a small proportion of the global community.

My main drive at scuba dream is engaging new and existing divers with the underwater world, about its challenges, how to create change and be part of a scuba world that has a positive impact not just beneath also on the surface as well. Our planet is mostly water it deserves to be recognised as it strives to support all life on earth. I engage divers with the conservation of diving introducing them to Padi AWARE, the PADI torchbearer community, and the conservation courses they can do. This is a platform for them to learn a more in-depth way of protecting not just our oceans, but the environment on a whole. I love diving, but its sole purpose for me is to help other people see the oceans true value and beauty.

    Gareth Willis

    Assistant Instructor

I was introduced to scuba diving by friends in 2008 when I qualified as an Open Water diver.

I knew immediately this was the hobby for me. I continued my training fairly quickly: Advanced Open Water, Deep and Nitrox specialities. I was very keen to dive some of the amazing, deeper wrecks off our coastline and abroad.

Although I love marine life, especially sharks, my main passion is definitely wreck diving. I just find the history of how It got there so interesting.

I became a Padi Divemaster in August 2012 after completing my internship and assisting on many courses during this time. From there, I have assisted on many courses, from Try Dives right through to professional courses and it is very rewarding to see people that I once taught, now teaching others to enjoy this amazing activity.

I had the pleasure of introducing my partner Becky to diving and she loves it as much as I do!

After doing a Discover Scuba Dive on my honeymoon in Zanzibar I was determined to become a qualified Scuba Diver. On holiday in Mexico I completed my PADI Open Water DIver course. Since then I have dived in the cenotes in Mexico, wrecks in Cyprus, reefs in the Red Sea and with seals off the coast of Northumberland. Most of my diving has been at Eight Acre Lake with the friendly staff and customers of Scuba Dream. It's a huge privilege to now be a certified PADI Divemaster and help other students and divers to get the most out of this great sport.
