Next Freediver course 3+4 th October. Contact us for details.
Leisure Freediving is a rapidly growing sport in the UK and you can discover this amazing sport with Scuba Dream Dive School at Yorkshire’s premier dive site located near Hull. The PADI Freediver course is the perfect way to develop a solid understanding of freediving skills in confined and open water. Once completed you can experience the freedom of exploring underwater by harnessing the core techniques of breath hold along with safe buddying principles.
Freediving is based around the technique of “apnea” a term used to describe the suspension of breathing. In water sports the term refers to voluntary breath-holding while keeping the face below the surface of the water. Freediving courses train you in how to extend this length of time through relaxation and calming of the mind and the effect that breathing techniques can have to relax and calm your mind. Many people find that the focus of the training fosters a more relaxed meditative state of mind that is peaceful and very rewarding the more you practise.
Our philosophy is that everyone on our freediving course should be comfortable and at ease within a small group to enable them to perform to their best. We encourage a positive learning environment which is supportive and not competitive. Safety is paramount which is why from the very beginning you will learn how to buddy for safety.

Freediving is about inward power, discipline and control. If you’ve always wanted to enter the underwater world quietly, on your own terms, staying as long as your breath allows, then freediving is for you. A freediver has to be relaxed and calm and this is your first step toward discovering why freediving is becoming a popular way to explore beneath the surface. Because of the focus on breathing and relaxation this is also a great course for all athletes, scuba divers and anyone who is looking for a calmer meditative way to interact with water.
To enrol in a PADI Freediver course you must be at least 15 years old. You need confident swimming skills and need to be in good physical health. No prior experience with snorkelling, skin diving or freediving is required.
